HI ladies it's me again and happy Lord's day! I hope and pray that y'all and your families are doing well. Today for my blog I will be sharing about Dr Martin Luther King Sr. Notice I didn't say Dr Martin Luther King Jr (I'll talk about him again in another blog) but in this blog I'll be sharing about King Sr because King Sr rarely ever gets the credit due for his life because he lived an exceptional life too. Anyway, King Sr was born Michael King and was born in 1899 and he died in 1984 as an old man. He outlived his son Dr King Jr! He was also born in Stockbridge Georgia to Della (born 1875 died in 1924) and James Albert King (born 1864 died 1933) and King Sr's parents were sharecroppers and he would often help his parents out in the farm before he went to school. In fact when he was a child, he'd come to school and kids made fun of him for smelling bad. He often said this to his classmates. ''I may look like a mule I may smell like a mule but that doesn't make me a mule.'' In other words, he didn't allow his classmates' words to define him. Then he would get older When King Sr became a teenager, he met Pastor Adam Williams (he died in the 1930s) and Jennie (she died in the 1940s) who would share the gospel with him and he got saved and he would join their church shortly afterwards. He would finish his high school education and Pastor Adam was like a ''spiritual father'' to King and encouraged him to continue his education. King Sr graduated from high school Bryant Preparatory school and he attended Morehouse Bible college to study to be a minister. He would work odd jobs while paying for his education. He would also court Alberta Pastor Adam and Jennie's daughter who was a Christian and taught boarding school and they were married on Thanksgiving Day 1926. She quit teaching and dedicated to being a pastor's wife and leading the choir until her death in 1974. They would go on to have three children Christine King Farris (born 1927 died 2023), Michael King Jr (later renamed Martin Luther born 1929 died in 1968) and Alfred Daniel King (born 1930 died 1969) King Sr was associate pastor at Ebenezer Baptist church for about four years until the 1930s. In the 1930s, after the death of Pastor Adam Williams, his now father-in-law, he took over as senior pastor and was senior pastor for four or five decades! That also happened during the Great Depression but he managed by the grace of God to raise his young family and have funds during that time. He would raise his children to serve the Lord and he, being inspired by Protestant leader Martin Luther, changed his name to Martin Luther King Sr and his son Martin Luther King Jr. Both his sons Dr King Jr and AD would grow up serving the Lord and became ministers themselves. Also Dr King Jr would be known as ''Civil Rights Leader'' too. Tragically both King Sr's sons and his wife were assassinated and he eventually died in 1984. But despite what he went through, his legacy deserves to be honored. He went from coming from nonreligious sharecropper parents to becoming a Christian, becoming a minister, and changing his family lineage. There you have it ladies. I'm so happy that I got to write a blog honoring King Sr and I will share a blog to honor his son too. I pray that this blog encouraged y'all as well as encouraged y'all to learn of someone that rarely gets talked about in black history. Blessings and have a blessed week in the Lord everyone!
